GEWEX is a core project of the World Climate Research Programme, WCRP. WCRP’s objectives are to determine the predictability of climate and to find out what effect human activities have on climate, and GEWEX is the core project that investigates global and regional water and energy cycles.
Scientific guidance for WCRP and its core projects is provided by the Joint Scientific Committee (JSC), consisting of 18 scientists representing climate-related disciplines in atmospheric, oceanic, hydrological, and cryospheric sciences. The JSC reviews progress made by GEWEX and helps shape its direction, with GEWEX’s Scientific Steering Group fleshing out the JSC’s recommendations and fine-tuning the program.
